Recently I have been having difficulty getting myself motivated. My diary is full of variations of “Didn’t do what I had planned”-type comments. Beloved, from his hospital bed has, of course, continued to support me with variations of “You are doing more than most people do”-type comments, and loads of hugs. Meanwhile, back at home, the recordings to watch have been piling up. Now, for some people, that’s OK but I sometimes see it as another addition to the “To do” list. (Yes, I know that’s weird! I make no apology for my life)

Anyway, one of the types that is mounting up has been murder mystery programmes from a company called Walter Presents. They are great…except they are in various foreign languages so I can only watch when I can concentrate on the subtitles. This is proving effective, because I have started to watch them as I exercise. I do the same classes each time, so I can do almost all of them with the sound off. (Though there is one part of one class that is so challenging I need the instructor’s voice urging me on. Actually, I need her shouting at me, which she does with gusto.)

I am now using the fact that I want to know what happens and how the murderer will be caught in what are complicated plots. It seems to be working. I am really keen to watch these recordings and so, if I want to feed my curiosity, I have to exercise. Today I have not written down the number of classes I am going to do. Instead I have written “watch three episodes”. As I type I have my gym wear on and I’m excited about seeing the programmes. (Yes I know that is sad but life is difficult at the moment and my standards of “excited” are dramatically reduced). Subtitles have become my motivater!

Wish me luck, I’m going in.
